Baobab Studios’ Emmy®-winning VR experience, Baba Yaga, invites viewers to be a main character in a haunting fairytale world completely reimagined. Their choices determine the ending of this story of love, fortitude and magic. Sometimes a force for evil, sometimes a force for good, the enigmatic witch Baba Yaga (Kate Winslet) uses her powers to stop the villagers whose settlement encroaches upon her enchanted Forest (Jennifer Hudson).

When your mother, the Chief (Glenn Close), falls deathly ill, it is up to them and their sister Magda (Daisy Ridley) to do the unthinkable—enter the forbidden rainforest, uncover its hidden mysteries and get the cure from Baba Yaga. Ultimately, every decision you make matters … perhaps even whether humanity and nature can live in balance

Baba Yaga is directed and written by Eric Darnell (“Madagascar” franchise) and co-directed by Mathias Chelebourg. The film stars Oscar® and Emmy® winner Kate Winslet (“The Reader,” “Mare of Easttown”), Daisy Ridley (“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” “Ophelia”), Oscar and three-time Grammy® winner Jennifer Hudson (“Dreamgirls,” the Aretha Franklin biopic “Respect”), and three-time Golden Globe® winner and seven-time Oscar® nominee Glenn Close (“The Wife,” “Albert Nobbs”). Baba Yaga is Executive Produced by Jennifer Hudson, Maureen Fan, Larry Cutler, and Kane Lee.

A brash, fearless little girl and daughter to the Chief, Magda will stop at nothing to save her mother from Baba's curse.  With fierce determination, Magda hatches a plan to go into the dark forest, confront Baba Yaga, and bring back the magical flower that can lift the curse against her mother's wishes.

“Baobab is at the very forefront of VR and interactive animation, so it’s been exciting to work with Eric and the team to bring such a beautiful story to life. I love playing Magda, because she is brave, vulnerable and fiercely protective of her family all at the same time. The idea that the viewer will be able to genuinely interact with my character in this magical world and help steer the course of the narrative is so amazing”

A mysterious witch who has protected the forest from destruction at the hands of the village.  Her methods have become more aggressive over time as the village continues to destroy the forest, leading her to place a deadly curse on the chief of the village.  Similar to the Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga flies around on her magical mortar with her pestle, and she resides in her seashell hut that stands on top of chicken legs.

Forest: Voiced by Executive Producer Jennifer Hudson

The forest is filled with energy and life - spirits that inhabit the trees and plants. The forest contains numerous personalities, no two trees are the same. More bark than bite, the forest attempts to scare misguided villagers from entering. As the village continues to destroy the forest, it has taken on darker more ominous tones in response to the village threats.

“While the story is rooted in classic folklore, we were inspired to bring it into modern light by focusing on environmental themes and strong female characters, themes the world needs to explore now more than ever. It was my pleasure to be part of the strong female cast alongside Daisy, Kate and Glenn.”

Chief: Voiced by Glenn Close

A fearless warrior and leader of the village, the Chief comes from a lineage of leaders guarding the villagers while expanding into the forest.  She is protective of Madga and Sasha, her children, the future leaders of the village having raised them herself.  Cursed by Baba Yaga with a deadly illness, she is too weak to move, living out her remaining days in bed.
